A former defensive end for the New Orleans Saints was shot and killed late Saturday night in what was believed to be a road rage incident. New Orleans Police say that Smith’s vehicle was rear-ended by a Hummer H2 while driving in the city. The hit caused Smith’s Mercedes to hit the back of another car. The driver of the Hummer and Smith exchanged words, at which time the driver produced a handgun and shot Smith multiple times. Smith’s wife was also shot twice and was rushed to the hospital. She will survive her injuries. Witnesses claim there were as many as eight gunshots fired. Will Smith 34 years of age died at the scene.
This is a senseless act of violence and a tragic loss.
