There was some doubt to whether or not Cruz would remain on the Giants roster and now all of that doubt has been laid to rest. After last year’s disappointing season with the Giants, Cruz has been released to free up some cap space.
Cruz wanted to return to the organization and was even willing to take a pay cut to remain a Giant. Cruz is 30 years old and has injury issues but could easily be an asset to any team as a veteran presence. Now that he has been released, any team willing to sign him will not be faced with any additional compensatory picks. His release has freed up $7 and a half million in cap space.
