The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Jameis Winston 1st overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. Glennon was our quarterback at the time, but the Bucs brass, at the time, decided that they needed another QB to take over the franchise. We were looking at two guys to be the franchise QB, Jameis Winston, and Marcus Mariota. Luckily, we chose Winston. Now the rest is history.
Winston has been very successful his first two seasons with Tampa Bay he broke many franchise records and In fact, he is 2nd for most passing yards in his first two seasons with 8,132 yards (not the first with 8,232 yards like so many posts I’ve seen lately) in NFL history.
The Buccaneers QB has surpassed many big named QBs such as Cam Newton, Peyton Manning, and Dan Marino. Those are just a few names on a long list of very successful quarterbacks in the NFL.
Winston hasn’t had much to throw to besides Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Evans, Cameron Brate, and Adam Humphries. Winston has been prone to throwing interceptions and has thrown 33 in two seasons. In year one he threw 15 and in year two he threw 18. But he has thrown for 50 touchdowns in two seasons and has averaged a QB rating of 85.2.
Winston is the face of the franchise and he will continue to be loved in Tampa as the yards continue to pile up. If the Buccaneers grab another receiver and Cameron Brate continues to develop then the limit is the sky for the third year QB. Go Bucs!
