The Next Step for Godwin?

The Buccaneers are a very threatening offense on paper. I know they do not have their primary signal caller for the first three games, but the surplus of weapons at Ryan Fitzpatrick’s disposal is incredible. The one guy not receiving as much hype as he should, is the second year receiver Chris Godwin. He was kind of the unsung hero at the end of the season last year. It looked like Godwin was ready for more a workload after last season.

The Buccaneers selected Chris Godwin in the 3rd round of the in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Philadelphia native played his collegiate career at Penn State. In college, Godwin tormented the secondary of opposing Big Ten schools. In three seasons with the Nittany Lions, he had over 2,400 yards with 18 touchdowns. He was outstanding in his rookie campaign. Godwin pulled in 34 catches and racked up 525 yards with a touchdown.  He is the perfect mixture of strength and speed. He is only 6’1, so he will need to optimize his other skills in order to be successful in the NFL.

Tampa Bay currently has DeSean Jackson, Mike Evans, OJ Howard, and Cameron Brate in their receiving corps, but if they are smart Godwin will find room in that jam packed offense.  The Buccaneers cannot waste a talent like Godwin possess. It doesn’t look like he will take a step backwards in his sophomore year. I think we may look back and realize the Bucs made a great pick in Godwin.
