What Do Fitzpatrick and Winston Bring to the Table from Here On Out?

Watching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season is somewhat like watching a soap opera starring Dirk Koetter, Jameis Winston, Ryan Fitzpatrick, DeSean Jackson and many more. You just never know what is going to happen next.

In last week’s episode, after yet another bad performance by Fitzpatrick against the Giants on Sunday, Koetter decided to take him out of the game and go back to Jameis Winston…again! Winston has also been announced as the starter for Sunday’s home game against San Francisco.

The question is, what does each quarterback provide for the Bucs for the remainder of this season?

Jameis Winston: The former first overall pick in the 2015 draft has to take this final chance to prove that he is the future of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Putting him in the game is the only right thing to do at this point. Benching him after committing four turnovers against the Bengals was understandable, yet he should not have lost his starting job to Fitzpatrick. Winston has a great chance to show what he is capable of doing in the next six games, and it is crucial for the Glazers to enable Winston to create some chemistry with his teammates on offense.

Ryan Fitzpatrick: He should clearly serve as no more than Winston’s backup. Starting off the season magically with highly impressive wins against the Saints and the Eagles was great. However, it was just a matter of time before he lost his magic again. If he had not performed the way he did in the first two games, he would never have been given the starting job back again. Since he is almost 36 years old, the franchise definitely has to look elsewhere for their future leader.

Conclusively, sticking with Jameis Winston and trying to find out whether he is worth keeping in 2019 is obviously the right call. He will get his first chance to prove himself against the 49ers’ mediocre defense at Raymond James Stadium.
