McCoy Responds To Report On His Future In Tampa Bay

0

A report from the Draft Networks JC Cornell states that he has a source who has told him that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are moving on from the former All-Pro DT Gerald McCoy. As soon as McCoy caught wind of it on Twitter he decided to respond to it directly.

Now to be clear, McCoy’s response doesn’t make the initial report wrong. In fact it only makes things even more uncertain. Yes McCoy addressed the report head on, but both parties could still be working out a deal. At this point though, nothing is clear.

Gerald McCoy is due $13 million next season, and the consensus is that he would be overpaid considering age and production. Without a doubt he has done great things for this organization on and off the field, and it is more than likely the Bucs would like to keep McCoy in Tampa Bay if cap space wasn’t an issue. Unfortunately it is though, and they will have tough decisions to make on players like him. The Bucs could have asked him to take a pay cut or at the very least restructure his deal. Which he may not want to do. One thing is for sure though, McCoy is wanting to make it clear that nothing is a done deal in Tampa Bay.
