In a season that has had little to cheer defensively, Lavonte David showcased why he is one of the best linebackers in the league. Previously David has been absent from the stat sheet and in some games, ineffectual. Perhaps bogged down amongst the mire of ineptitude?
Despite the disappointment of defeat in Baltimore to the Ravens and the elimination from playoff contention, David showed up in a big way. Leading the Bucs with 10 tackles, two assists, and two sacks on a day were yards had to be ground out. Topping a fine performance with a fumble recovery means that he’s easily forgiven for dropping a near-certain interception, especially since even receivers were having issues catching the soaking wet ball.
During a season like the 2018 Buccaneers have endured, it’s sometimes hard to find things to cheer. One of the bright spots in this year is the performance of Lavonte David and his ability to make plays. Yes, things are far from ideal in Tampa on the defensive side of the ball, but some core elements are in place, and David is certainly one of those.
