There is no need to get into statistics when it comes to the Buccaneers kicking game. The past two seasons, our kickers were in the habit of missing kicks that college kickers could easily make. However, last Sunday, Patrick Murray helped us possibly get our kicking woes behind us.
Murray nailed his first attempt since his return to the Buccaneers, a 50 yards field goal. He also added one from 25 yards later on the game, and was perfect on all of his extra point attempts.
Murray’s debut actually came in week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals, but he did not receive the call to attempt any field goals. Murray did attempt an extra point, which was good. One has to wonder, would giving him a chance to kick a field goal towards the end of the first half in Arizona, cutting into our deficit would have changed the outcome of the game. Unfortunately, we will never know.
I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say it’s nice to finally have a kicker who makes kicks rather than one that lets you down in a pinch. Maybe it was the place kickers fault. Anyway, thank you Patrick Murray and keep on kicking the rock.
